Do you already have a shirt that fits just right? Or maybe it fits almost right, but you want to tweak it a bit. In those cases, the best thing to do is measure your existing shirt. You can make small adjustments as needed. It’s simple. We’ll show you step-by-step!
Collar a bit too tight? Add 1/4 inch. Body a little too baggy or too trim for comfort? You can adjust the shirt chest, shirt waist, or shirt bottom as needed. Please take the measurement carefully and then make desired adjustments for the final measurement. DON’T ADJUST FOR SHRINKAGE. WE WILL TAKE CARE OF THAT.
NOTE: You will need to use a fiberglass measuring tape. (Cloth tapes sometimes stretch.)
Shirt Collar
Lay the collar flat. Measure from the center of the button to the outside end of the buttonhole. Record your measurement to the 1/8 inch.
Shirt Chest
With the shirt front buttoned up, lay the shirt out flat. Measure from the point at the bottom of the armhole straight across to the bottom of the other armhole. Record your measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Shirt Waist
Including the collar button, count down to the 6th button. Just about the 6th button, measure from the edge of the shirt straight across to the opposite edge. Record your measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Shirt Bottom
At the bottom of the shirt, measure from the edge of the shirt straight across to the opposite edge. Record your measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Shirt Bicep
Lay the sleeve flat. Measure the sleeve from the bottom of the armhole straight across to the folded edge of the sleeve. Record your measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Shirt Yoke
Lay the shirt flat with the back of the shirt facing up. At the top of the fold, measure from the point where the sleeve attaches to the yoke straight across to the same point on the opposite side.
Left Shirt Sleeve
Lay the shirt flat with the back of the shirt facing up. Flatten the left sleeve. Measure from the center of the yoke to the point where the sleeve attaches to the yoke. Then measure from that point to the bottom of the cuff on the left sleeve. Record your measurement to the nearest 1/8 inch.
Right Shirt Sleeve
Measure as you did for the left sleeve.
Left Shirt Cuff
Flatten the cuff. At the location of the button & buttonhole measure from the cuff edge on one side straight across to the opposite cuff edge.
Right Shirt Cuff
Measure as you did for the left shirt cuff.
Shirt Tail Length
Lay the shirt flat with the back of the shirt facing up. Measure from the point where the collar attaches to the yoke straight down to the bottom edge of the shirt tail.
